A Week After DevDay, Only Two Things Actually Stuck

DevDay shipped twenty-plus features. A week later, most of them are demos. Two are changing how people work.

OpenAI's DevDay threw more than twenty products at the wall. A week in, the ones people actually use are fewer than the keynote implied. The flashy autonomous agent, Dots, is the conversation, but the feature quietly changing workflows is GPT-6.1 Sol: near-flagship quality at a fifth of Astra's price, cached input at ten cents per million tokens.

The second thing that stuck is the plugin surface. 'Sign in with ChatGPT' launched with partners including Notion, Vercel, and Devin, and an enterprise marketplace crossed thirty-plus partners. Developers can now ship apps that render natively inside ChatGPT. That's a platform move, not a feature drop, and it's the part competitors will have to answer.

Dots itself is the asterisk. The demos are great and the real-world reports are split: some users got a genuine inbox zero, others got a Dot that hung up on no one and confirmed tasks it hadn't finished. Autonomous agents are clearly the direction, but the reliability tax is still being paid by early users.

So the takeaway for builders: bet on Sol's economics and the plugin surface. Treat Dots as a preview of where agents go, not something to depend on today. DevDay's headline was the future; its lasting impact is the cheaper model and the open door for your app.
