Gamma, Tome, and Canva All Build Decks. The Winner Depends on Whether You Can Draw.

AI deck builders promise to kill PowerPoint. I built the same pitch in all three and the real split was between people who have an idea and people who have a design.

Everyone says AI will end the death-by-PowerPoint era. I wanted to know which tool actually gets me from blank slide to something I'd present without an apology, so I built one pitch in Gamma, Tome, and Canva.

Gamma is the fast first draft. You give it an outline and it produces a clean, modern deck with a rhythm that reads as designed even when you did nothing. For someone who freezes at the empty slide, that's the whole product.

Tome feels like a document that learned to present. The storytelling flow is smoother than a slide stack, and it handles long narrative better. I'd use it for a proposal that needs to read like a story, not a status update.

Canva is the safe incumbent. If your brand already has a Canva kit and three people need to edit, it wins on familiarity and control, even if the AI part is less magical. The deck your team can finish beats the deck a model started.

My pick: Gamma when I need a deck now, Tome when the story matters more than the slides, Canva when the team and the brand kit do. None killed PowerPoint; they just made the first ten slides free.

Frequently asked questions:

Q: Do these replace PowerPoint?

A: For first drafts, yes. For corporate templates and collaboration, Canva and PowerPoint still rule.

Q: Which is best for non-designers?

A: Gamma. It makes decent design decisions so you don't have to.

Q: Can I export to edit elsewhere?

A: All three export; check format limits on the free tier.
