The Benchmark You Should Ignore

Leaderboards decide which model people pick and almost none of them test the thing you actually do. A model tops the chart on math and folds on your messy real document.

I learned to ignore the headline score and test on my own tasks, a real brief, a real transcript, a real bug. The model that won the benchmark often lost my Tuesday.

Vendors optimize for the benchmark, naturally, so the number drifts from use. The only honest test is the work you'll repeat, run both on it, and pick by that, not by the board.

The benchmark you should ignore is the one you didn't design. Build a three-task test from your actual week and the 'best model' crown moves more than the marketing admits.
