Gemini Cleaned My Google Drive in an Afternoon, and I Didn't Touch a Folder

I described the mess and let Gemini sort it, with one rule that kept me safe: it could label, not delete.

My Drive was a landfill of 'final_v2_real' files. I asked Gemini, which already reads my Drive, to group everything by project and flag the duplicates, without moving a single thing yet.

The labels were mostly right, and seeing the pile sorted by intent instead of date was the first time the mess felt manageable. It found three copies of the same contract I'd been editing for a year.

The rule that kept it safe: I let it suggest, I approved the moves. A model organizing your files is one typo away from a disaster, so the human stays the mouse, the AI stays the map.

An afternoon of approvals cleared a year of clutter. I still don't love filing, but now the filing is a yes-or-no instead of a where-does-this-go. Gemini's access to my actual files was the only reason it worked.
