The Weekly Review I Actually Do Now (Because ChatGPT Does the Boring Half)

Every productivity system I ever abandoned died at the weekly review, because reviewing is clerical work wearing a self-improvement costume. The fix was to split the job: ChatGPT does the clerical half, I do the judgment half, and the review now takes twenty minutes instead of a lost Sunday evening.

The setup takes one saved project or custom instruction: tell it your role, current projects, and what counts as a commitment versus a nice idea. Then the routine is a single paste, calendar events from the week plus your scattered notes, followed by one prompt: extract every commitment, decision, and open loop, grouped by project, flagging anything with no next action.

The magic is in what it catches that you will not. That hallway promise to send a deck, the meeting where a decision was announced but never written down, the idea you typed into your phone at midnight. I consistently find two or three forgotten loops per week, which is exactly the failure mode reviews exist to prevent.

Resist the temptation to let it plan your week too. When I asked for a schedule, it produced confident fiction that ignored my energy patterns and one client deadline. The division of labor that works: it extracts and groups, I decide what matters and when. Twenty minutes later the coming week fits on one screen.

After two months, the honest scorecard: I have not missed a weekly review since, and the system finally survives my bad weeks, because the bad weeks are exactly when you need something that runs on paste instead of willpower.
