Drafting Cold Outreach With Claude Without Sounding Like a Bot

Generic AI cold emails get deleted in a second. Claude gets good results only if you feed it the unglamorous specifics.

Cold email lives or dies on the first line, and Claude will happily write a worthless one like 'I hope this finds you well.' The trick is to forbid that mode up front: tell it 'no pleasantries, open with the specific reason this is relevant to them,' then paste the prospect's recent post or funding news.

I keep a tiny brief per segment: who they are, what we do that maps to their stated problem, and one proof point. Claude turns that into a three-sentence opener that sounds researched because it is. The model doesn't know the news; you supplied it.

The mistake is asking for the whole email at once. I ask for the opener, critique it, then ask for the body constrained to under 80 words, then a sign-off that offers a low-effort yes. Three small asks beat one big one every time.

Finally, send five and read the replies. If nobody answers, the problem isn't Claude, it's that your offer isn't sharp yet. The tool exposes a weak pitch faster than it hides one.
