ChatGPT Wrote My Product Spec. The Outline Was Great; the Numbers Were Made Up.
It structured the doc perfectly. Then it invented adoption rates that sounded plausible and weren't.
I asked ChatGPT to draft a one-page product spec from a messy voice note. The structure it produced -- problem, user, scope, risks -- was better than mine in five minutes.
The failure showed up in the numbers. It wrote a 12 percent adoption estimate with no source, and a competitor comparison that blended two companies into one. Plausible, confident, wrong.
Now I use it for structure only. I delete every statistic it invents and fill the real ones from our analytics before the doc leaves my hands.
Treat the AI spec as a scaffold, not a source. The skeleton is a gift; the facts are still your job.
