The Customer Story Deck I Now Build in Tome Every Quarter
One customer's before-and-after, told properly, outsells any feature list. This is the Tome structure and the four embeds that do the selling.
Every quarter I build one customer story deck in Tome, and it has quietly become the most-shared asset I make. Not because Tome is magic, but because its format (scrolling, embeds, narrative-first) happens to be exactly right for telling one story well.
The structure that works, in order: the customer's Tuesday morning before (the problem in scene, not in bullets), the cost of that problem in their numbers, the moment of decision, the implementation in three honest steps including the wobble, and the after, same Tuesday morning, problem gone. Stories sell; Tome's scrolling format keeps the story from getting chopped into slide-sized fragments.
The embeds are where Tome earns its keep over a PDF. The dashboard screenshot is actually the live dashboard. The usage chart is the real chart, current when they open it. A two-minute clip of the customer saying it in their own words plays inline. And the final CTA links straight to scheduling. A deck that updates itself between sends is a different species from a deck that is already stale in your outbox.
Two rules keep it honest. Real numbers with real baselines: 'from 14 to 9 hours a week' beats 'saved time' the way a receipt beats an adjective. And keep the wobble: the implementation step where they had to redo their tagging scheme is the paragraph prospects thank me for, because it makes the rest believable.
Production time is now under a day, and most of it is the interview, not the tool. The Tome part is two hours: paste the structure, drop the embeds, cut everything that sounds like marketing. The deck that results gets forwarded inside accounts, which no feature list of mine has ever managed.
