AI note-taking is a lie I needed to hear

The pitch is 'never take notes again.' The reality is you still have to think, and the AI just hides the thinking from you.

Note apps now promise to capture everything and surface what matters, so you can stop paying attention. I tried it. My recall got worse, not better, because I outsourced the part of noting that makes memory stick.

Writing a note forces a choice: what is worth keeping? Skipping that choice means a pile of transcripts I will never read, wearing the costume of productivity. The summary is only as good as the attention I brought to the moment.

I kept the tool but changed the rule. I take three manual bullet points during the meeting, then let AI expand them afterward. The human chooses; the machine elaborates. That order matters.

AI note-taking is fine as an assistant and dangerous as a replacement. The lie is that attention is optional. It is not.
