The Agent That Finally Booked My Dentist

Most agent demos book fake flights. The one that earned my trust did something boring and real.

I've sat through a year of agent demos where a bot books a fictional flight and everyone applauds. None of them earned my trust because none touched a real, annoying, human task. Then one actually booked my dentist and I understood the gap.

The dentist task is ugly: a phone tree, a hold music loop, a receptionist who needs my birthday and insurance ID. An agent that survives that mess is worth more than ten that can order a pizza on a clean API. The boring integration is the real capability.

What made it work was the checkpoint. It called me before confirming, showed the time it picked, and let me veto. The agents I don't trust are the ones that act first and report later. The one I kept asked permission at the one moment it mattered.

The lesson for the whole agent hype cycle: stop demoing the glamorous task, ship the annoying one with a human brake. Booking my dentist wasn't impressive on a slide. It was impressive in my life, which is the only place that counts.
