What my grandma thinks of ChatGPT (she is smarter than the demo)
I showed her a chatbot to be helpful. She used it to settle an argument and fact-check a rumor. I learned something.
I expected my grandmother to find ChatGPT confusing. Instead she asked it to explain a medical term the doctor used, then asked it to rephrase in plain words when the first answer was too technical. That is a better use than most of mine.
She also caught it hedging. When it gave a confident but vague answer, she said 'that is what the salesman said too' and asked a sharper follow-up. The model respected the push and got specific.
The takeaway for me: a clear asker gets more from these tools than a tech-savvy dabbler. She was not impressed by the magic; she judged it by whether it helped her do her thing.
I stopped explaining AI as futuristic and started handing people a single concrete job. That is what actually gets them using it.
