A Zap That Saves Every Good Idea Before I Lose It

I lose ideas in the gap between thinking them and writing them down. A two-step zap closed that gap.

I lose ideas in the gap between thinking them and writing them down. A two-step zap closed that gap: any message I send a specific trigger phrase to captures into an 'Ideas' sheet with a timestamp.

Setup took ten minutes. The trigger is a dedicated inbox or a Slack keyword; the action appends the text to a spreadsheet I review every Friday. No app to open, no 'I'll write it later' that becomes never.

The part that made it stick: Friday review. The zap collects; I decide. Without the review the sheet became a graveyard. With it, two ideas a month actually become something.

I almost over-built it with tags and priorities and killed the simplicity. Strip it back to 'capture the raw thought' and let Friday-me do the thinking. Automation should remove friction, not add a taxonomy.

If your best ideas die in transit, automate the capture, not the evaluation. The zap is dumb on purpose; you're the brain, it's just the net.
