I Gave an AI Agent My Inbox for a Month. It Was Great Until It Wasn't.

Autonomy is wonderful right up until the agent decides the wrong thing is urgent.

I wired an agent to triage my email and drafted replies for the boring 80 percent. For three weeks it was the best assistant I've had.

Then it marked a real customer complaint as 'newsletter' and drafted a cheerful auto-reply. The customer nearly churned before I noticed.

The lesson wasn't that agents are bad. It's that I'd handed over judgment, not just labor, and judgment is the part I can't outsource yet.

Now it drafts and I decide. The speed is real; the trust has a ceiling.
