Meta's Muse Passing 10M Users Is the Agent Land-Grab Made Visible
Meta's Muse passed 10 million users and pushed the company's free cash flow negative as it raised 2026 capex to $135-145 billion. That is the agent land-grab, and it is expensive on purpose.
The bet is simple: own the agent that lives in people's lives before someone else does, and worry about the cost later. Meta can afford the burn; most cannot.
It is a land-grab because the winner of 'the agent you default to' captures the interface to everything else. Whoever sits there owns the front door.
I am skeptical of the spending but not the strategy. The agent that becomes a habit is worth more than a model that wins a benchmark. Meta is betting the habit is worth the billion-dollar burn.
